The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, UW-Extension and the Integrated Pest Management Program will co-sponsor the IPM Field Scout Training Class to be held on the UW-River Falls campus, March 19-20, 2008. Topics covered include, pest identification and biology, damage symptoms, economic thresholds and scouting techniques for insects, weeds, plant pathogens, herbicide injury and nutrient deficiency symptoms for corn, alfalfa, soybean and wheat. CCA Credits will be applied for in the areas of pest and nutrient management.

Some Section 18 labels have expired as of November 10, 2007. The expiration date was after the publication of Pest Management in Wisconsin Field Crops-2008 (A3646), available through UW-Extension, and we felt that it was important to provide a summary update regarding these changes.

Supplemental Nitrogen to Corn Price Ratio Table

In fall 2005 UWEX began using the Maximum Return to N (MRTN) approach to make N rate suggestions for corn. Since that time, both corn and N prices have fluctuated. Currently N prices are high and may continue to move upward as we approach spring. Several of our clientele have asked for an expanded N:corn price ratio chart to reflect current and potential prices. Well, we listened and here it is.

Soybean Stem Canker in 2007

Multiple positive soybean stem canker samples have been received by the Plant Disease and Diagnostic Clinic and based on the location of positive detections, it appears that the majority of soybean stem canker samples formed a “U-shaped” pattern from the northwestern part of the state down to the south, before arcing back northwards towards Outagamie, Brown, and Kewaunee Counties.
