Most applicators use paper records to keep track of their pesticide applications. The record sheet itself is most likely computer generated and customized with the generic information already filled-in, but the information about the actual application is completed by hand by the applicator.

Farmers and conservation agency personnel are encouraged to join tillage specialists and equipment company representatives on August 12 for the Midwest Strip-Tillage Expo 08. This year’s Expo will be held at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station located about 20 miles north of Madison. A similar program was held in Minnesota and Iowa in the past two years.

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, UW-Extension and the Integrated Pest Management Program will co-sponsor the IPM Field Scout Training Class to be held on the UW-River Falls campus, March 19-20, 2008. Topics covered include, pest identification and biology, damage symptoms, economic thresholds and scouting techniques for insects, weeds, plant pathogens, herbicide injury and nutrient deficiency symptoms for corn, alfalfa, soybean and wheat. CCA Credits will be applied for in the areas of pest and nutrient management.

We just finished the 2007 Pest Management Update meetings last week. If harvest, soil sampling, or other field operations kept you from attending one of these meetings, we have a limited number of packets of the materials from the meetings, which can be ordered.

The Department of Soil Science will offer Soil, Water, and Nutrient Management Meetings at eightlocations in 2007. These meetings now combine the former Soil & Water Management and Fertilizer Dealer Meetings into one 4-hour sessions. A link for the PDF flyer is in this article.

A new version of the Snap-Plus nutrient management planning software for cropland and grazing land in Wisconsin is available. Snap-Plus is easily downloaded from the web site http://www.snapplus.net.
This software facilitates planning manure and fertilizer applications to meet crop production goals while following state guidelines for water quality protection.
