In today’s agricultural industry where budgets are tight, timelines are short and days are long, it’s easy to forget to take the time to appreciate the work and valuable services provided by your fellow Certified Crop Advisors. We have all worked with an exceptional CCA, an individual who deserves special recognition. The state CCA Board and the international CCA program are asking you to take a few minutes to nominate that individual for the Wisconsin CCA of the Year Award.

You may be reluctant to nominate someone, in part because the individual believes that working with the issues and with the people in the agricultural sector is reward enough. However, nominating an individual for the CCA of the Year Award serves a number of purposes. First, it increases the visibility of the CCA program and the importance of the services provided by CCAs. Second, it is an excellent opportunity for an individual who works for themselves or for a company to promote their high level of performance. And lastly, and most importantly, it formally recognizes and appreciates the efforts that CCAs make on a day to day basis.

The CCA of the Year Award is designed to recognize a certified crop adviser who delivers exceptional customer service, is highly innovative, has shown that they are a leader in their field, and has contributed substantially to the exchange of ideas and the transfer of agronomic knowledge within the agriculture industry. One of the individuals nominated for the award will be chosen by the CCA board based on nominations outlining the nominee’s unique skills or initiatives displayed in his/her crop advising career, involvement in the CCA program and volunteer service within and outside the agriculture industry. Nominees must hold a current CCA certification

The nomination deadline is August 15, 2008. Nominees will be reviewed by the Wisconsin CCA Board and the award recipient will be identified at the CCA luncheon at the start of WCPA’s Wisconsin Fertilizer, Aglime and Pest Management Conference in January The award includes a $1,500 travel voucher to the destination of their choice and a commemorative plaque. The successful nominator will receive $500.

Please give Bryan Jensen a call (608-263-4073) or email (bmjense1@facstaff.wisc.edu) if you have questions. The nomination criteria, tips for completing the application and the nomination form are attached. Although the nomination forms are somewhat detailed, they are not exceptionally time consuming. However, please be thorough with the nomination form as it is the only information the Wisconsin CCA Board can use for the decision.

Please return completed documentation to: Bryan Jensen, Dept. of Entomology, 1630 Linden Dr., Madison, WI 53706.
