Arlington Agricultural Research Station

 
You are invited to our fourth annual Pest Management Field Day, which features an array of information from our UW Weed Science, Entomology, and Plant Pathology research projects. It’s also a great opportunity to visit with these researchers and each other about current management issues. We hope that you can attend.   Please spread the word regarding the Field Day to your co-workers.
 
Schedule of Events                                                                                                                                         
 
8:00      Coffee                   Public Events Building

8:30      Load tour wagons

Visit field experiments that highlight developments with new and existing field corn, sweet corn, soybean, and pasture herbicides and other weed management practices. Weed management information will be presented by Chris Boerboom, Mark Renz, and Dave Stoltenberg.

Receive research updates from Eileen Cullen, field crop entomologist, on corn rootworm, western bean cutworm, and soybean aphid and an overview of 2008 insect efficacy trials. Paul Esker, field crop plant pathologist, will provide training on disease identification and mid-to-late season decision management in corn and soybean and an overview of disease/fungicide trials. 

Meet Russ Groves, our new UW Extension Vegetable Entomologist, and learn about the focus of his research and extension programs.

11:30      Formal tour ends

The tour will end at the corn and soybean herbicide demo area for people who wish to view these plots. Wagons will shuttle people to the Public Events Building until lunch. You are also invited to return to any of the other trials viewed during the tour at this time.   

12:00      Lunch ($10)           Public Events Building 

Afternoon

Tour vegetable and IR-4 experiments with Jed Colquhoun, Russ Groves, and Dan Heider at the Horticulture Farm. 

Tour any of the field experiments and demonstrations listed in the Field Day Booklet or visit with UW faculty and staff about specific trials.

 
CCA Credits: 2.5 hours requested
 
Directions: The Arlington Research Station is located about 20 miles north of Madison. From the south, exit I-90 onto US 51. The station (and sign) is on the west side of US 51. From the north, exit I-90 onto Hwy 60; drive east to Arlington and south on US 51. The Public Events Building and parking is at the south end of the station’s complex.
