Recently, EPA has approved a federal registration for Folicur, tebuconazole, from Bayer CropScience LP. Folicur has been approved for wheat and barley, specifically for control of Fusarium head blight (Fusarium head scab) and also rusts diseases including leaf, stripe, and stem rusts. The recommended application timing for control of rusts is at the earliest sign of rust pustules on the foliage. For Fusarium head blight, optimal timing is at the beginning of flowering on the main stem heads, or Feekes 10.51. The recommended rate for Folicur is 4 fl. oz. per acre for both barley and wheat, which is also the maximum allowed amount per acre per crop season. Folicur is in the Group 3 fungicide class (DMI fungicides). Check the label carefully, as you will likely need to obtain a supplemental label for directions for use of Folicur in wheat and barley in order to legally use the product on these crops.
