After a remarkable year of high prices, higher water, and high expectations, we are now facing falling commodity prices and uncertainty. Just like prices, our pests and management options are rapidly changing as well. Although we cannot forecast every change in pest management, we hope the information that we present at our Pest Management Update Meetings will provide you with knowledge to make solid pest management decisions. Our team of Eileen Cullen, Bryan Jensen, Paul Esker, and Mark Renz and I will be covering a wide range of pest information on corn, soybeans, wheat, and pastures. A sampling of topics that we will cover is listed below. We hope to see you next month, and be careful during harvest season.
Weed Management: Corn and soybean herbicide update and review; Value of residual herbicide programs; Costly management mistakes to avoid; Weed identification website; CRP mid contract management options; and Weed management in pastures and legume establishment.
Disease Management: Fungicide label updates; Winter wheat management and fungicides; Current results with corn fungicide treatments and IPM considerations; and Soybean root and stem health issues.
Insect Management: Western bean cutworm: a pest of field and sweet corn; Soybean aphid: 2008 season review; Japanese beetles in soybeans; plus additional updates.
