Are you interested in learning more about the management and control of multiflora rose and other invasive weeds?

 

Multiflora Rose and Invasive Weeds Field Days Set for June and July

Are you interested in learning more about the management and control of multiflora rose and other invasive weeds?  If so, plan on attending one of this summer’s five field days to be held in Iowa, Columbia, Crawford, Lafayette, and Richland Counties.  Each field day will include demonstrations on proper use of equipment for chemical control methods and other control options.  There will also be a discussion of Rose Rosette Disease and its use in controlling multiflora rose, tips on reading herbicide labels, identification and discussion of other invasive weeds, and ample time for you to get your questions answered.  These field days are free and there is no need to pre-register, just join us at the field day site of your choice.  Here are the dates and locations in each county:

 

µ  June 19th, 7:00-9:00 pm, Richland county: The Jim Preston farm, located just outside of Bosstown on Town Line Road. Contact Steve Kohlstedt, Richland County UW-Extension (608) 647-6148.

 

µ  June 21st, 2:30-4:00 pm, Iowa County: Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area, 2025 County Hwy BH, Highland.  Directions: Due to road construction on US 18, use this alternate route from Dodgeville: go west 8.3 mi. to Cave Hollow Rd, then north 2 mi. Turn left on Stephans Rd. and follow 1.2 mi. and turn right on Hwy 80, then 1.2 mi. and turn right on County Rd BH for  2.3 mi. to park entrance. From Highland, go south on Hwy 80 3.7 mi. then east on County Rd BH for 2.3 mi. Contact Rhonda Gildersleeve or Paul Ohlrogge, Iowa County UW-Extension (608) 935-0391.

 

µ  June 28th, 6:30-8:00 pm, Columbia County: David MacLeish Farm, Town of Caledonia.  Directions: Take Hwy 78 east from Merrimac or west from Interstate 90/94, then east on Petra Road for 1/2 mile.  Turn right on Blacklock Road and travel ~3/4 mile to gate on right.  Park off the shoulder as far as possible. µ  July 9th, 9:30-11:00 am, Lafayette County: Greg Patten Property, Town of Belmont.  This field day will be held at a CRP-enrolled site and will specifically be aimed at assisting you in weed management in “set aside” property.  Directions:  Take Hwy 151 north from Belmont 3.2 miles and turn right on Burr Oak Rd.  From Mineral Point, take Hwy 151 south for 6.6 miles and turn left onto Bethel Grove Rd.  The field day site is at the corner of Burr Oak Rd & Bethel Grove Rd.  Contact Lisa Trumble, Lafayette County Conservation Office (608) 776-3836.
