Professionals certified through the American Society of Agronomy (CCA, CPAg, CPSS/C), currently working in organic crop production, and those professionals interested exploring approaches to organic production, can plan to obtain continuing education units (CEU’s) at this year’s Upper Midwest Organic Farming Conference (UMOFC). The conference, conducted by the Wisconsin-based Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES), will be held February 21-23 at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, WI. A total of 83 CEU’s have been applied for in the areas of Crop Management (33.0), Pest Management (21.5), Soil and Water (14.5), Nutrient Management (9.5), and Professional Development (4.5).

The conference is billed as the foremost educational and networking event in the organic farming community in the United States.   Last year, more than 2200 people attended from 41 states and 8 countries. The conference emphasizes “practical workshops designed to help beginning, transitional, and experienced organic farmers.” There is also a pre-conference Organic University, February 21, which offers intensive day-long sessions on specific topics in organic agriculture. This year, the conference introduces an Organic Research Symposium, where researchers from universities and other institutions will present results from current and ongoing studies in organic crop production. Finally, there is a trade show featuring over 130 exhibitors from resource groups, certification agencies, buyers, processors, cooperatives and suppliers in the organic industry. The University of Wisconsin’s Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems has been a long-time sponsor and collaborator for this event.

For more information on the Upper Midwest Organic Farming Conference and the Organic University, see the MOSES website at http://www.mosesorganic.org/.
